{"id":453,"date":"2019-07-01T08:38:37","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T15:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/biokic1.rc.asu.edu\/lichen\/wordpress\/?p=453"},"modified":"2025-12-04T09:24:04","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T16:24:04","slug":"backup-download-your-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/help.lichenportal.org\/index.php\/en\/2019\/07\/backup-download-your-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Backup\/Download Your Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> (live collections) <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Under <em>normal <\/em>circumstances it is not necessary to backup occurrence data managed as live collections. <\/strong>All your data is online on our server, where it is regularly backed up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, even though<strong> the entire CNALH online database is regularly backed-up<\/strong>, this doesn&#8217;t mean drastic changes to <em>individual <\/em>collections can easily be undone. <br>Restoring the <em>entire <\/em>CNALH database will reset <em>all <\/em>collections back to the time when the entire CNALH database was backed up. Thus, if restoring your <em>individual <\/em>collection will invariably affect all other collections too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are some scenarios, where it is strongly recommended to perform a backup of your collections&#8217; occurrence data:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>When you travel and have no access to the internet<\/strong> CNALH built-in backup allows you to download a copy of all your data in spreadsheet format. Although there is no straightforward way to edit and update your data, you have at least access to the information.<\/li><li><strong>Before you do large-volume batch edits\/modifications<\/strong> of your data consider running a backup first. Although CNALH has some modest restore tools that allow you undo some edits, large batch operations usually cannot easily be undone.<\/li><li>One such example is using the <strong>Taxonomic Name Cleaner<\/strong>; make a backup before you use this tool !!!<\/li><li>Another example is <strong>batch-updating specimen identifications<\/strong>, again: backup your database first !!!<\/li><li>Yet another good example, where a backup is strongly recommended: when you<strong> batch-upload a spreadsheet of new occurrence data<\/strong> into a live data set. When batch-uploading to a live data set, it is important that no records are accidentally overwritten; updating a snapshot collection is less problematic, because the data is being replaced anyway.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is who you can perform a backup:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <strong>My Profile<\/strong> &#8211;
